Telangana’s Blockchain District forges new Partnerships with Bitfury and ISB
The blockchain event at ISB Campus on Saturday saw an overwhelming turnout and was a celebration of Hyderabad’s vibrant Blockchain community. The event saw the signing of new partnerships. Also, the Blockchain District logo and website were officially launched by Sri Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, ITE&C Department, Government of Telangana in the presence of NITI Aayog. The logo was selected based on a competition conducted among students of Jawaharlal Nehru College of fine Arts and Architecture (JNAA), Hyderabad.

After several rounds of consultations with industry and academia, the government had conceptualized a Blockchain District, which aims to be among the world’s top 10 leading Blockchain Technology ecosystem by proactively driving key initiatives for developing talent pool, infrastructure, research & innovation and community building.

“Blockchain District provides a platform which enables the stakeholders to collaborate co-create and build solutions in blockchain technology, which today is at a nascent stage, but has enormous potential in the coming years,” said Mr. Jayesh Ranjan, Principal Secretary, ITE&C Department, Government of Telangana. “Telangana being the hub of innovation and technology would always strive to be the first mover in tech-domains.”

Government of Telangana, IIITH, C-DAC and Tech Mahindra are the founding members who launched Blockchain District and have been engaged in several initiatives since then. Saturday saw the onboarding of new Blockchain District members.

The Bitfury Group, a billion-dollar tech giant, the largest full-service blockchain technology company in the world, entered into a partnership with Blockchain District to establish a research and innovation Centre in Hyderabad and to offer courses, necessary incubation and mentoring support to all associated members.

“We are excited to see this opportunity unfold. Hyderabad has fantastic potential for the application of Blockchain Technology and ecosystem development. The world is rapidly changing and Bitfury is on the front lines of the technological revolution enabled by blockchain. We believe blockchain will increase transparency and trust, enhance citizens’ engagement and advance fresh applications that will further promote innovation”.

Indian School of Business will be offering co-working space, access to investor network, business expertise and many more benefits to Blockchain District startups. MLR Institute of Technology was also onboard to extend support in R&D and incubation.

“ISB is delighted to dedicate a physical space for Blockchain District lab. We are excited to collaborate with Blockchain District partners in creating intellectual capital that would help create Blockchain solutions for society” said Prof Bhagwan Chowdhary, ISB.

“This is very nice. We will be very happy to host a Blockchain Innovation hub. It will be based at the IIITH Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and would be a part of the Blockchain District. We can advance that and start right away” announced Prof. P.J. Narayanan, Director, IIITH.

Telangana aims to carry forward the same momentum under our visionary leadership for other emerging technologies too.
